Jahresgaben 23 (Arbeitstitel!)
The exhibition presents both large and small-format figurative and abstract paintings covering a wide range of techniques, from vibrantly coloured impasto to subtle plays with depth and surface. Extending over 800 sqm, the display also features watercolour and ink drawings, woodcut collages, and glass and light objects. Finally, a series of wooden sculptures created especially for Reutlingen will be presented to the public for the first time.
With works by Anna Nero, Lucia Kempkes, Hanna Stiegeler, Felix Kultau, Carola Ernst, Stefan Alber, Marie Aly as well as HC collectif. The exhibition is also supplemented by annual offerings from Sunah Choi, Gerrit-Frohne-Brinkmann, and Vera Kox, who have special ties to the Kunstverein due to their former solo exhibitions.
"Jahresgaben" or Annual offerings are for sale. While Kunstvereine differ from galleries in that they are essentially non-profit, these yearly “commercial” presentations have become a much-appreciated means to strengthen the bonds between members and visitors. They provide visitors with an overview of the Kunstverein’s programmatic orientation, act as seismographs of current trends in art production and enable visitors to purchase art at moderate prices, with proceeds going towards supporting the artists and the Kunstverein’s activities.
In other words, if you buy a work from the annual offerings exhibition, you are supporting art in more ways than you think.
