Mehr als je
fallen die Dinge dahin, die erlebbaren, denn,
was sie verdrängend ersetzt, ist ein Tun ohne Bild.
Rainer Maria Rilke, Duineser Elegien
Die neunte Elegie, 1923
In our post-modern reality, which is overflowing with the same intangible and incomprehensible processes shifting into the immaterial, artistic activity is almost the only activity that ever gets something done. A work of art is an unrepeatable individual case. It not only accepts reality, but arranges the things seen in the world and transforms them from individual experience into an image. In the midst of the diffuse virtual space of an unrestricted present, it makes a decision, demonstrates its position and becomes a counterpart. It simply shows something like 'house, bridge, fountain, gate, jug, fruit tree, window, column, tower', as Rilke puts it ... With what even the most intimate, personal, vulnerable still life in this exhibition becomes a world view »joyful of existence« that we can relate to anew or again.
